Derek Hansen, science teacher at College View Academy in Lincoln, Nebraska, was presented with a national award during graduation ceremonies on Sunday, May 25. Hansen is among 10 teachers selected this spring by the Alumni Awards Foundation to receive a 2014 Excellence in Teaching Award. The award included a medallion and a $2,000 gift from Union College, Hansen’s alma mater. Hansen was chosen for this award because of his ability to challenge his students intellectually through connecting with them on a personal level.
