Our health is often at the forefront of our minds. We want to improve our well-being now and increase our longevity. We strive to eat right, to exercise, to get enough sleep, to be social, to be wise, to be intelligent, to go on walks and be as healthy as we can be.
It can be hard to know who to listen to when it comes to our health. We hear that eggs are good for us and then a month later those same people say eggs are bad for our health. Screen time can be bad for us but we’re told to spend our days on Zoom with our friends or having conference calls with our family members.
We may be frustrated and wonder if anything can help us be healthy and live longer. We may even wonder what it is all for anyway, since death is a guarantee.
There is only one thing I can think of that is perfect for our health and is also guaranteed to help us live a longer, happier life. In fact, it will actually help us extend our lifespan indefinitely. It’s not a vegan diet; it’s not running 1 to 2 hours a day; it’s not getting 7 or 9 hours of sleep a night; and it is definitely not making sure we put our family first and a career second or putting our careers first and our family second.
It is simply loving Jesus Christ, who redeemed us and will save us from death.
The promise of God is that if we believe, love and obey Him we are promised eternal life and salvation from this world. “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” 1 Cor. 15:52.
I will receive that perfect body in perfect health for eternity. “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isa. 40:31.
We will live forever eating from the tree of life.
In heaven and in the New Earth, we will not have any illnesses or any issues with our health—nothing that causes us distress, nothing to think about like what kind of chemo treatment we should have or what kind of vaccine we should be getting or what combination of medication will be perfect for our mental state.
We will be sustained by the light of God and the tree of life which produces fruit every month.
That is the only way to improve our health to perfection.
To receive this change, this new health status, we must surrender ourselves to Christ. We must ask for forgiveness and we must repent.
Reader, I pray you believe that He is the one who will save us from this sick world, and live for Him in a way that shows Him and the rest of the world that you are His. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” 2 Cor. 5:17.
It is Christ alone who sustains us. “But he answered and said, It is written, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” Matt. 4:4.
Maybe I am the only one who needs to hear this, but it would be a shame to focus so much on making your earthly body as healthy as it can be while neglecting your spiritual connection to the One who saves. Surrender yourself to the One—the only One—to give you the healthy food that you need.
Personally, if there was no promise of eternity, no promise of perfect health, if there was really only this one sinful life where we had the opportunity to love God, that would be enough for me. I hope you feel the same way.
Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
