My Bible reading has taken me to Romans. It’s not like I have never read Romans before but this time I am reading from a different version of the Bible.
I am kind of a Bible junkie, hummmm maybe that’s not the right word. Let’s put it this way I never seem to find a translation of the Bible that I just love. Several years ago I was reading from the New Living Bible, I really liked it but when I started memorizing scripture I wanted a more conventional Bible. I have had several Bibles since then but they seem to. . . .well, they are not easy to read. I am back to the New Living translation. . .for now.
Yesterday I read Romans 12, this chapter is enough for several weeks of sermons. Be honest in your estimate of yourself. God has given each of us the ability to do certain things well. Don’t just pretend that you love others, really love them. Never be lazy in your work. Be glad for all God is planning for you. Be patient in trouble. Always be prayerful. When God’s children are in need always be the one to help them. Live in harmony with others. Don’t think you know it all. Never pay back evil for evil. Do your part to live in peace. Don’t let evil get the best of you.
If we just patterned our life after the suggestions in Romans I wonder what this world would look like? One thing I noticed is how important relationships are. So much of what Romans is talking about is how we treat each other. This week I am going to be more mindful of how I treat others, I think it’s Biblical.
