“Cantus 2022 Middle School Choir Festival was a smashing success,” said Steven Hutchison, Midland Adventist Academy music director. “Seven schools brought their 5-8th graders to participate in a one-day festival choir of around 90 singers. The theme for the festival this year was ‘Take Heart’ and the songs, worship services, and activities focused around finding courage in God to answer His call.” The event was co-directed by Hutchinson and College View Academy music director Renae Cross.
In March the Hispanic Leaders Retreat was held which included church elders, directors of praise teams, and audio and video directors, according to Hispanic Ministries coordinator Alejandro Dovald. “The training was aimed at improving the worship of God and services in our churches. Our goal is to make them more meaningful, more visitor-friendly and oriented to the new modality of ‘in person and streaming’ at the same time,” said Dovald. Edgar Luna (pastor, musician and orchestra director) was in charge of the training for the praise team directors while Pastor Daniel Sanchez was in charge of the training for the elders. Dovald took the responsibility of training the audio and video directors. “Workshops were held where everyone received information, tools and ideas on how to improve their ministries and how to function properly with each other. Equipment for audio, video and streaming was also presented, which are easy to use and very useful for churches,” concluded Dovald.
