As we study 1 Corinthians 13, we see that in addition to being patient, true love is also kind. To be kind means to be considerate, helpful, and do good things for someone else. Jesus explains love that is kind by telling the parable of the Good Samaritan. You may read it in its entirety in Luke 10:25-37.
A man was traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho. On his trip he encountered some bandits who robbed and beat him and left him for dead on the side of the road. Two persons passed him by, first a priest and then a Levite, but offered no help. However, help came in the most unexpected form–a Samaritan. Samaritans were the hated enemies of this Jewish man.
The Samaritan demonstrated kind love. Risking his own life and the possibility of being robbed and hurt by the same bandits, the Samaritan stopped to clean and bandage the man’s wounds. He then took the wounded man to an inn and paid the innkeeper to help the man until he recovered.
Helping someone who needs help is a great way to show kind love. God also shows us kind love. Psalm 46:1 says
God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble (NLT)”.
God loves us with a kind love.
