I’m not a big fan of New Year’s resolutions. There’s nothing magical about a new year to finally help us make the shift we’ve always wanted to make. I’m not sure January’s the best time to start much of anything since we’re generally worn out from the holidays. I also don’t think it helps to hear statistics about how few people realize the goals they set for the new year. But I do believe every day and any day is a new beginning.
…his compassion never ends. It is only the Lord’s mercies that have kept us from complete destruction. Great is his faithfulness; his loving-kindness begins afresh each day. Lam. 3:22-23 TLB
Every time the sun rises, on January first or any other day, we get a fresh scoop of God’s grace. And it’s not a grace that acquits us and walks away, it’s a grace that follows us with loving-kindness. As God’s children, loving-kindness lights our path. It prepares the way before us and covers a multitude of mistakes in our wake.
Lovingkindness on the days you wake up bounding with energy.
Lovingkindness on the days you wake up in a funk.
Lovingkindness on days you wake up worried and struggle to trust.
Lovingkindness for days when everything God’s been teaching you suddenly makes sense and for the next day when you can’t remember any of it.
His feelings are kind towards us EVERY day. If our lives had a stage, lovingkindness is the stage we get to live on. Let’s soak that up. Let’s bask in God’s love in 2020.
Whatever day we find ourselves in and whatever progress we see or don’t see, I pray we’ll come back to this reason to celebrate: His lovingkindness shines on us either way.
