When things in your life are shifting quickly, how do you feel? Untethered? Cast loose from all you know? Do you wonder what it will be like on the other side? Most likely, it’ll be a mixed bag. Some of the new things will delight and others won’t. We know it won’t be perfect until we walk right into our home with God, but maybe it could be better.
I’m in a season of change and asking God to hold my hand as we round this corner. If my personal normal is going to be torn down, I don’t want to be alone. It’s scary going where you can’t see, but less scary when the One who sees everything is next to you.
There is a beautiful thing about having your normal taken apart piece by piece. Even if it explodes marvelously into a million pieces, we get to see each piece of our lives separate from the others and decide how we put it back together. We see new ways the pieces could fit or if they no longer fit at all. Maybe we lay them aside for this season. This moment is ripe for creating and designing and conjuring the very things we’ve been yearning for.
Here’s the trick:
You can’t add the things you want, if you don’t know what they are. Like a growling tummy, we shush our desires, but what if we let them tell us what we’re missing and let God show us how to fill that need?
All the things we long for are built into us by God. The need to belong, the need to be known and loved, the need to contribute something of meaning to the world, the need to be forgiven, the need for peace and beauty and quiet. God wants us to listen to these longings and know the faith that allows us to believe She’s working to bring us all the good things.
For the LORD God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The LORD will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. Psalm 84:11 NLT
