On Sunday, May 10, Union College welcomed 202 new graduates to the ranks of its alumni in the first fully-online commencement ceremony in the college’s 129 year history. While the medium changed this year, the message is the same: Union College is proud of its graduates and fully confident they are ready for whatever challenge life brings next.
The online ceremony can be replayed above or on YouTube. In it, Dr. Ben Carson, United States Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, delivered the commencement address, and Union’s faculty and staff shared short messages for the graduates.
While the class is comprised of 202 graduates, the college conferred 247 degrees, with 42 students earning two degrees and three earning three degrees. Union only celebrates commencement in the spring; however, 49 of the graduates had completed their requirements in December, and a further 22 are projected to finish in August.
Union’s Class of 2020 is very diverse, representing 33 states, 12 countries and 33 fields of study. The three largest majors were nursing (48 graduates), biomedical science (37), physician assistant studies (30) and business administration (25).
Union College is planning to hold a physical, in-person ceremony for those who can attend this fall. Please watch Union’s website for more information as it becomes available.
