1. To Those Who Have Survived—And Those Who Care
Connie Nelson, Oct. 5, 2018
2018 saw the breakout of the #MeToo movement, a movement that I believe has had an overwhelmingly positive impact on our society. While the impact of this movement has been positive for the future, it is digging up some awful events of the past. Connie Nelson talks in this post about her own experiences with sexual assault and how Christians should take this issue seriously rather than attacking the victims.
2. My Conclusion—The Barrier of the Sexes Is Still Raging
Teresa Thompson, Aug. 6, 2018
Another major part of 2018 in the Adventist Church has been the ongoing fight over a woman’s role in the church. Teresa Thompson briefly addresses the fact that in order to achieve unity in the church, the unbiblical gender barrier that currently exists must be broken down. She points out that God’s spirit will be poured out on all flesh, your sons and your daughters will prophesy.
3. Discoveries in Ghana, West Africa
Bailee Coler, June 26, 2018
This post of a student’s experience visiting Ghana tactfully brings forward the need for us to lose our hyper-judgmental view of other cultures. We are conditioned to look at other cultures as dangerous, which helps excuse our lack of support for those who need it. In reality, we are often the ones lacking. We may not be lacking financially, but we have much to learn.
Sabrina Riley, April 18, 2018
Sabrina Riley delves into history with this post, telling the story of two doctors during the WWI era and their divergent relationships with the Sabbath. The story is both educational and inspirational, as it tells about U.S. history and one doctor’s will to follow his convictions.
Ed Dickerson, Sept. 26, 2018
As someone who enjoys etymology, I appreciate this post about the fluidity of language within the church. Different words mean different things to different people in different situations. Because of this, we must not jump to conclusions, cast judgment, and assume we know everything about someone solely based on the words or phrases they use.
