On April 14, 2012, at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Sergeant Felipe Pereira received the military’s second-highest honor — the Distinguished Service Cross — for actions that saved the lives of two soldiers. It was the first time anyone from the 101st Airborne Division has received the honor since Vietnam.
