Our position is important, especially when we read the Bible. I’ve been with friends who attack Bible study like a puzzle. They bend over it sorting and sometimes forcing pieces to fit so that they can create the picture they want, manipulating texts in order to prove their theory or point. I have found that it is much better to surrender to God’s Word, to be under it and not over it, allowing it to influence my life and situation. I don’t try to figure it out as much as I allow it to figure me out. I don’t make it, I allow God’s Word to make me, always, of course, with the power of the Spirit.
