I remember when we lived in Texas, we moved into a house with a very nice lawn. We did everything we could to try to keep it looking nice. One day we were talking to a neighbor who had a beautiful lawn, and we asked him how to keep the weeds out. He smiled and said, “Feed the grass.”

This advice works for lawns and lives: We have to feed on God rather than focusing on weeding out sin.

I saw a quote by Dietrich Bonhoeffer this week that speaks to this idea so well: “Being a Christian is less about cautiously avoiding sin than about courageously and actively doing God’s will.”
